The Racing Itch

April 5, 2014 Goals

From the age of 12 until 22 and then again from like 26-28 I have raced remote control cars. Yes they have organized racing for small toy cars and yes I was pretty good back in the day. I then started to race in Triathlons to running events, etc. pre-back injury. I think you can see where this is going…I like to compete and race.

As of late though I’ve been wanting to get back into racing with my son, who is soon to turn 5. Part of me thinks it would be a great time and the other part is reminded by how long you wait to actually race. During down time you sit and “wrench” on your car, but I’m not sure how much wrenching he would do. Along with that there is not a lot going on as the motor and batteries and rarely swapped out. Along with that most of the tracks are now a good hour away from us which only adds the time sitting driving and/or waiting to race.

On the flip side racing was a blast and I truly enjoyed it. I guess we should take it one step at a time. Perhaps we should look into slot car racing and go from there?!

As for my racing itch, don’t fret it’s not contagious and slot cars are not enough, I have been considering racing Go Karts in Novi. They are electric, indoors and have leagues. I guess I should make sure my back is healed up before I jump into a Go Kart! Ok, maybe the itch is contagious, but in a good way! 🙂
