Michigan State Parks Need Our Help
There has been an ongoing battle to help out our state parks, as they are losing money quickly. As an active member with the MMBA(Michigan Mountain Biking Association) we value our state parks and help build and maintain trails for various uses(hiking, horses, biking). Tonight in our quarterly meeting it was brought to our attention of a proposal quickly making it to the floor.
I am asking people that I know to support this new proposal to help fund state parks. Please take the time and check out the website http://mmba.org for further details on this issue and about contacting your local and state representatives. * This will take about 5 minutes out of your day and should this proposal pass save our state parks for decades to come. If you do support this, I ask that you also pass this along to anyone else you know.
A brief summary of what is going on is as follows: For those that do not know, state funding stopped in 2004 for our state parks and they are going to be in the red if nothing is done come later this year. Which means state parks will stop offering certain amenities and also start closing parks that are used by many. The proposal is simple, it suggests the elimination of the annual $25 park fee and add an optional(optional being the key here) fee of $10 to license registration. I know times are tough, but if you are a two car family and you have used or use state parks, this would cost you $20 verse $25(an actual savings). And with times being tough, keep in mind that Michigan State Parks are excellent and affordable places to take a family camping to a day at the beach! Please do you part and contact your representatives. This proposal is moving quickly and has no extra “crap” attached with it! Thanks for your support! 🙂
