Goal: 1250 Miles
So as noted on the main page of the website, my goal for 2008 was 1250 miles…which is 250 more than last year. This may sound as if it was a lot more from the year before, but keep in mind I was off from riding for 1.5 months last year with some injuries. So going on the idea that there would be no further injuries, this sounded simple. And just to note, there were no injuries this year. With about a month left I had 413 miles to my goal and knowing I had two big rides coming up that would get me about 150 miles I was not worried. And also keep in mind that the two rides I was training for, so the miles were increasing each time I hit the trail or the road. Well, there is one thing that I did not take into account for and that was the weather. I have to be honest, anything below 50 degrees is tough for me to get out as I am not a fan of riding in cold weather. I honestly prefer riding in 80-90 degree weather. Needless to say getting out in the last month to reach my goal became challenging. And then it happened, we moved our clocks back an hour and dusk went from 6pm to 5pm overnight. At this point, I only had 80 miles to go, but finding the time and decent weather was the challenge. Luckily the first week of November was excellent weather and we were able to finish up our riding goal for the year, ending with the exact amount of miles…no more…no less! Well, next year the goal will be 1500 but with the baby on the way I am not sure how that will work out. Perhaps I will attach the kid to the bike and we can go for a ride! 🙂
