Goal: 1000 Miles
One of my goals for this year has been to ride over 1000 miles between my road and mountain bikes. Yesterday was the day I pushed over the 1000 mile mark. I can’t say it has been easy the last few weeks, as every ride has been at least 25 or more miles. And yesterday was not any easier. I put in another 50 mile ride with the last 10 miles becoming the hardest as my legs began to cramp up from the cold weather. It took me 2.5 hours to ride 40 miles, but the last 10 took 45 minutes. I had to drop the pace from 18-20mph to 8-10mph. While it was an easier pace, it took much longer to get up hills. Needless to say, the goal was reached and after burning just under 3000 calories I ate and slept the remainder of the day away. Today as I write this, I am still in recovery mode but feeling better as the day goes on. With the next 15 days of projected weather to be cold and rainy, I do not foresee myself getting outside to ride until next year. It would seem the season is coming to end, so my exercise will have to move indoors. Over this season I have lost a total of 33lbs. I started out the season at 213lbs and have been maintaining the weight of 180lbs for the past 3 weeks. Over the off-season from riding, my goal is maintain the weight loss and be ready for next year. I look for next years goal to be 1250 miles.
