The Time of my Life
As some of you may know, I have been experiencing numbness in my hands, feet, and face. May and June have not what I would call the greatest of months, but you play the cards you have been dealt. So last week Wednesday, Kelly and I went to the ER because my tongue went numb…that will freaked me out.
Wednesday June 13
Went to St. Joseph’s ER in Saline around 2pm, per instruction of Neurologist. However the Saline branch does not have an MRI machine, so that did not help. However, the Ann Arbor branch ER was on a 7 hour wait and had I gone there, I may have not received the MRI. The ER Doctor in Saline worked to get me an MRI that same day and also tested my blood to make sure no levels were off. My Mom and Sister showed up around 3-4 in Saline, but had initially gone to the Ann Arbor facility…seems they knew we end up there. After that we all drove over to the Ann Arbor branch were there was some confusion in the ER about me coming over and then some computer issues with me not being officially released from the Saline office. The MRI said he did not care and took me back while they worked out everything. Should ever need an MRI in your life, take some medication or fall asleep. You are basically in a 2 foot circle and unable to move for about 45 minutes. After that test was down, we went down the ER, got admitted and waited for the test. Mind you I was not allowed to eat or drink anything, and it was about 10pm. We finally were admitted to a bed around 12 midnight or thereof.
Thursday June 14
So around 1am my Mom and sister headed home as there was no clue when the test results of the MRI were going to come back. At about 3am Kelly woke me up and said it is time to go home as the test results came back fine. At that point we were both exhausted, and I was starving. On the drive home I ate a 6 hour old Subway sub…this had to be one of the soggiest things I ate in my life, but I was starving and had to get some form of nutrition. We went home, got some sleep and woke up early as I had an EEG scheduled with my Neurologist for Thursday at 10:30am. We went to that, tired as all could be. The test was about 45 minutes, and well once again if you ever have to get this test, be prepared to hyperventilate for 3 full minutes. That in itself freaked me out and most of my body went numb. They say this is normal for this test, but it took a lot longer in my opinion for the numbness to go away. The rest of the test was fine, just some flashing lights and a bunch of probes hooked to your body. After all this testing was done, I went home and crashed.
Friday June 15
Took another day off work to just relax and waited for test results. The Neurologist, Dr. Gramprie reviewed both the MRI and the EEG and verified that all was normal. At that point he asked that I come in and we made an appointment for Monday June 18. I also should note that we took apart my Dad’s mountain bike that day, very therapeutic as it is something that I enjoy. Looks like we are going to have to replace some parts and that is in the works. His birthday is July 18, so hopefully we can get that all accomplished by then.
Monday June 18
Had an afternoon Neurology appointment, so we went into work for 3/4 of a day. Went to see Dr. Gramprie, and came to the conclusion that my anxiety levels are high and I need to take it easy. He gave me a prescription for a mild dose of Zoloft. After getting this news and perhaps knowing nothing major is wrong, I felt better immediately. So afterwards I decided to go exert myself and ride the mountain bike at Brighton with Jeff P. and a few of his friends. I had never rode the Brighton trail, and I must it was very hard. While it was only 9 miles, it was a very difficulty 9 miles. But i survived and took it easy the remainder of the day.
